June 13, 1982 Day 14
11:30am
Did some back-country off-roading through the Redwoods – good action shots of the Blazer doing a salmon imitation. Should be some good pictures, (I hope).
4:00pm
Crater Lake – we’re talking mega snow – the most we’ve seen yet. Too cold to camp here.
June 14, 1982 Day 15
Drove to Craters of the Moon. This is a pretty sharp place. Unexpected for the small size of the park. It’s definitely a contrast to the snow of the mountains and the color of the forests. It is all brown lava just thrown around – a real mess – but there are some really cool caves that you can climb around in. “Paperweight paradise”.
Tomorrow its Yellowstone.
We are a week ahead of schedule. It doesn’t take long to see these small places. Hopefully, we can spend some time in Yellowstone, (provided it’s warm enough).
Silver Lake was a disappointment – NO BAR!
June 15, 1982 Day 16
Jellystone!!
This place is huge. It takes 1-2 hours of driving just to get anywhere.
We saw Old Faithfull and then went fishing, (today was the first day of the season). Within a half hour, we caught 3 trout and had to throw them back because they were too big! All three were over 13” long – what a dinner we could have had. Oh well, better luck tomorrow.
There’s snow on the ground, but it’s not too cold and it’s real nice during the day.
- There are grizzlies here!! –
June 16, 1982 Day 17
Slept late. We went off to explore the geyser and mud pot section of the park after a fruitless hour of fishing.
“Lindsey wants to be a wider in a wodeo” – good times with little kids.
- Note: Dan steals all the blankets at night! (Jeff) Bullshit! (Dan)
- Note: Ray’s air mattress blows!
June 17, 1982 Day 18
4:00pm
Visited the canyon and hot springs section of the park. The colors at the hot springs are wild, but the waterfalls and canyons aren’t as dramatic as some of the other stuff we’ve seen – but still pretty (“milli-niff”)
So far, we got: mule deer, elk, chipmunks, yellowbird, buffalo, moose and one distant bear. (still need a pretty girl).
June 18, 1982 Day 19
Did basically jack. Jeff got up with the birds; took pictures of a poor sunrise and fished for a while. He got jack. Slept late, 10am, then went horseback riding. Jeff was on Antelope and I (Dan), was on Half-breed. Horses are definitely better than mules. They can gallop even!
Jeff is still messy and f—ing up! We leave tomorrow morning at last!
June 19, 1982 Day 20 Up early and we’re off – Jewel Cave is cool. We took the scenic tour to get better pictures. The . . .
June 8, 1982 Day 9 Arrived in Yosemite in early morning. Ray splashes a lady by a puddle and gets chewed out by the Ranger . . .
