I am using a remote trigger/timer with my camera to get different types of long duration exposures. It is a little device called a Triggertrap that hooks up to my S3. An app on the phone lets me program all kinds of timed pictures. This was one of my first attempts at taking a picture of the Milky Way with my 7D and a 35mm f2 lens.
I set the Triggertrap to take exposures from a couple of seconds to close to three minutes. In the long exposures there was a lot of good glow from our galaxy but the star trails were too long. I settled on this 11 second exposure with some image enhancement to bring out the glow of the Milky Way a bit. I will need to experiment more the next time I am where the skies are dark (definitely not NJ).
On October 11th the Aurora Borealis was visible from Denville NJ. Our yard has a lot of trees so we could not see down toward . . .
