June 6, 1982 Day 7
6:30am
We woke up and headed for the Grand Canyon and Zion. We got a few pictures at the canyon, “It’s big!”
11:00pm
Zion is beautiful. Everything is solid rock. We arrived at Zion in mid-afternoon and took a short look around. We plan on a little hiking tomorrow, but nothing too tiresome since we’ll be driving at night.
It’s getting late, Dan’s reading, Jeff’s talking to Helen and I’m going to call Cindy soon.
June 7, 1982 Day 8
8:30pm
We’re leaving Zion for Yosemite. Zion was real nice and the weather was great. Jeff and I, (Ray), hiked two different trails today. We met and ex-marine, (Jerry). He was good company during all the walking. We’ll be driving through Vegas tonight and should hit Yosemite during daybreak.
10:00pm
Port of Call – Las Vegas:
“You’re driving down the strip heading nowhere with a bottle of Becks in your hand and a pretzel stick in your mouth – What do you do? – Just drive right on through without stopping. How boring!”
